After I’d finished my Master in English Language in Literature at Leiden and Edinburgh University, I started working at Excerpta Medica, a daughter of Elsevier Science Publishers. As a junior desk editor, I had to learn a new profession. I edited medical books and journals, although I hadn’t studied medicine and didn’t know much about the medical science. This may sound as a disadvantage, but it wasn’t. An editor has the task to improve texts and make them accessible, to professionals and non-professionals.
In my years at Elsevier I learnt how to make complex text understandable. Sometimes this is a huge challenge, but I love it!
